DOVER, DELAWARE (JUNE 19, 2020) — Dover native and 2020 State of Delaware Youth of the Year winner, Tyanna Tribbett, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, $2,500 scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and $1,000 scholarship from Johnny Janosik World of Furniture to go towards her Delaware State University college tuition in the Fall.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has seen higher graduation rates resulting in improved lifetime learning among Club members. Youth of the Year celebrates and empowers Youth of the Year participants across the state to build great futures. Together, we can move the needle for youth in Delaware, creating real opportunities based on their potential – not their ZIP Code.

Each finalist goes through a selection process where participants worked hard to complete applications, develop speeches, and prepare for interviews with a panel of judges. This program has been successful in developing our finalists and providing a platform for them to share their voices. Johnny Janosik World of Furniture sponsored the Special Achievement Awards. The winners: Outstanding Essays Award and Community Service Award – Yahseem Washington, Claymont Boys & Girls Club, Academic Excellence Award – Alexia Jordan, DAFB Boys & Girls Club, Leadership Award – Allie Maurer, Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club, and Outstanding Speech Award – Sharese Johnson, Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club. Each finalist received a $500 award, YOY Finalist medallion and framed certificate.
About Youth of the Year
Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware’s signature recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person, chosen from one of our 42 Boys & Girls Club locations, has the opportunity to become National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of our young people in Delaware.
The journey to being named National Youth of the Year begins locally and progresses to state, regional and national levels, with an additional military phase for members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military bases. The Youth of the Year is a program where our Club kids have the stage to highlight their talents and achievements by communicating their hopes and dreams. This program is opening doors to opportunity by boosting potential, building lifelong skills, and encouraging accomplishments. Youth of the Year honorees are exceptional examples of young professionals and living proof that great futures start here.
