Where Are They Now? - Adasia Hawkins

Adasia Hawkins, recipient of the 2021 George Krupanski Jr. Delaware Youth of the Year Award, has not slowed down since taking home the coveted Eagle trophy. An early graduate of Delaware State University and aspiring attorney, Adasia continues to embody the leadership, determination, and service that define a Youth of the Year.
Adasia first joined the Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club at age 12. Over the years, she immersed herself in Club life, participating in programs, volunteering her time, and even working in the preschool classrooms. Reflecting on her journey, she credits Club staff members Mrs. Shawn and Mr. Jermane, and Ms. Millie, along with her mother, Finisha Mills, who also works at the Club, for helping shape the person she is today.
"The Club is always going to be in your corner."" Adasia says.
After graduating from high school, Adasia enrolled at Delaware State University, where she earned her degree in Criminal Justice in just three years. During her time on campus, she was deeply involved in student organizations and leadership programs, including NOBLE Law Enforcement, Queen In You, the Society of Black Female Future Attorneys, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and the National Honor Society. Never one to sit still, Adasia often served in leadership positions and helped guide her peers as a chapter president or officer.
In 2025, Adasia was recognized with the prestigious John Lewis Youth Leadership Award, honoring her outstanding leadership, advocacy, and commitment to uplifting marginalized communities. The award is yet another reflection of her dedication to creating positive change and serving others.
Today, Adasia serves as an Administrative Assistant Intern at Kivioja, Shockley & Porter while preparing for the next step in her academic journey. She is studying for the LSAT and working on her law school applications, with plans to begin pursuing her legal education in the coming year.
We continue to be incredibly proud of all that Adasia has accomplished and have no doubt that her future holds even greater successes. When reflecting on her Youth of the Year experience, she points to one lesson that has stayed with her: "The confidence I found within myself during the process was life-changing. I wasn't good at public speaking or recognizing my own strengths and qualities, but Youth of the Year helped me discover what I was capable of."
