When Leneja Pittman joined the UpNext program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, she had no idea just how much it would shape her future. During her second year in the program, she attended a group trip to Coppin State University, an experience that would ultimately define her next chapter.
A member of Jobs for Delaware Graduates (JDG) at Seaford Senior High School, Leneja was eager to build her skills and gain work experience. That drive led her to UpNext, where she spent the next two summers at the Western Sussex Club serving as both an Art Instructor and Jr. Youth Development Professional. In these roles, she guided members through stress-relieving art projects, served meals to more than a hundred Summer Fun Club kids, and led active games that brought energy and laughter to the group.
Beyond her Club responsibilities, UpNext gave Leneja hands-on opportunities to prepare for the workforce. She learned how to write a strong resume, and practiced networking with local professionals including a “speed networking” event that connected her with mentors across industries. “Speed networking was really great. I met so many professionals and teens from other Clubs,” she recalls.
One guest speaker, Chiropractor Dr. Barry Morrison , made a lasting impression on Leneja. He shared his journey from a difficult youth to becoming a successful business owner with his own practice. “He was doubted when he was younger, and people made assumptions about his future,” she remembers. “It was inspiring to hear how far he came.” Experiences like this opened Lenaja’s eyes to the wide range of career paths available.
The most impactful moment, however, came during the UpNext trip to Coppin State University. There, she learned more about their highly ranked nursing program and got a first-hand look at campus life. “It really made the difference for me,” she says. “I hadn’t considered them before, but after visiting, I immediately asked if they were still accepting applications.”
That visit fueled her desire to become a pediatric nurse, combining her love of working with children, something she experienced daily at the Club, with her desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a nurse.
Not long after, Leneja received her acceptance letter. Today, she’s officially a freshman at Coppin State University, excited to begin her studies in nursing. She credits much of her growth to the mentors at the Club. “Mr. Dave, Mr. Tyler, and Mr. Smith have been a big factor in my life, and I’ve always looked up to them. They’ve helped me grow as a person,” she shares proudly.
Like many teens, Leneja wasn’t sure what her next step would be. Thanks to the UpNext program college tours, and the real-world skills she gained at the Club, she now has a clear vision for her future. As she begins her journey at Coppin State, the Club community is cheering her on every step of the way and is excited to welcome her back during summer breaks!

Well-written post! Choosing the right gaming platform really makes a difference, and your points explain it clearly. I’ve come across Juan 365 app, which reflects many of the features you discussed. Looking forward to more posts like this.
The gameplay of Wheelie Life focuses on precision and restraint. Players maintain wheelies across unpredictable tracks. Aggressive input is heavily punished. Smooth riding keeps the bike stable. Progress feels earned.
Leneja's journey from UpNext art instructor to Coppin State nursing freshman shows the real impact of mentorship and hands-on programs. Love how those college tours sparked her pediatric nursing passion. We celebrate these wins at home with coffee on the marble side table—this elegant marble side table truly elevates my entire creative corner! Congrats Leneja!
