“I am somebody. I matter. I will make today count. I am ready to learn. I am ready to succeed.”

These are just a few of the affirmations echoed throughout the Oak Orchard Club each morning during Summer Fun Club. While the words may be simple, their impact is powerful.

“It helps them start the day off right,” says Bobbi Mooers, Oak Orchard Club Director.

Each morning, Club members gather in the gym for announcements and to prepare for the day ahead. As part of the routine, selected youth step to the center of the room to help lead their peers in a series of positive affirmations. Guided by a staff member, the group recites phrases that encourage confidence, self-worth, and a positive mindset. The daily ritual creates  helps members begin their day feeling motivated and supported.

At Boys & Girls Clubs, we know that success starts with believing in yourself. Small moments like these morning affirmations can have a lasting impact, helping youth build confidence and develop the skills they need to thrive both inside and outside of the Club.

Creating opportunities for young people to grow, succeed, and feel valued is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it is morning affirmations, a spontaneous dance party, hands-on learning experiences, or talent shows that give members a chance to shine, Club staff work every day to bring out the best in every child.

The morning affirmation tradition at the Oak Orchard Club is just one example of how our Clubs foster positive youth development and create environments where young people feel empowered to reach their full potential. By starting each day with encouragement and positivity, members are reminded that they are capable, important, and ready to succeed.

And judging by the smiles, energy, and enthusiasm in the room each morning, that message is getting through!
