Rashid Flonnory, a member H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club, has been named the 2026 George Krupanski Jr. Delaware Youth of the Year. A program in its 79th year, Youth of the Year honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire. This event was made possible by the generous support of our sponsors and supporters, who are dedicated to advancing our mission and ensuring the well-being of our youth.
"This is such an incredible honor, and I’ll take this with me for the rest of my life” Rashid says of the award.
A student at John Dickinson High School, Rashid has been a proud Boys & Girls Club member for the past eight years. During that time, he’s taken part in a variety of programs, including leading the impactful Future Leaders Football Clinic. This clinic was a free resource for community youth to participate in development workshops and field workouts.
“Through the Club, I have strengthened the most important skills, built lasting relationships, and learned what it truly means to lead from the heart. I want to continue to support and help my community by giving back and showing young people that challenges don’t define them, but how they get back up and respond to those challenges” he says.
Rashid was mentored by the 2023 George Krupanski Jr. Delaware Youth of the Year, Shianne Reams-Bennett. He credits her leadership and guidance as being as playing a crucial role in winning.
"Rashid’s story reflects the experience we strive to create for every one of the 3,000 members we serve each day. We're proud of all that he has accomplished, and look forward to cheering him on at the regional competition this summer" says John Wellons, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware.
As the 2026 Delaware Youth of the Year, Rashid will go on to compete for the title of Northeast Regional Youth of the Year in June and an additional $20,000 in college scholarship. Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C. later this year to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of $50,000 and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the Oval Office.
