Meet the 2023 George Krupanski Jr.Youth of the Year, Shianne Reams-Bennett

Shianne Reams-Bennett has been named the George Krupanski Jr. 2023 Delaware Youth of the Year among six other finalists. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Now in its 76th year, the Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire. “We are very proud of Shianne and all that she has accomplished during her time at the Club” says John Wellons, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. “I know that she will go on to do great things, and we are incredibly excited to watch her represent Delaware at regionals.” Shianne is a senior at Freire Charter School, and an active member of the H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club where she is the Keystone Club President. Shianne also works at the Club as a Jr. Youth Development Professional, and enjoys working with the Club kids while knowing she is making a difference. She assists members with their homework during Power Hour, and is heavily involed with the Book Nook program, helping Club kids to complete their reading assignments. At school, she is the Executive Vice President of the Student Government Association and head of her cheerleading team. After graduation, she plans to attend college for sports management. With over 120 volunteer hours in the past year, Shianne is also an active member of her community. I can always depend on Shianne to step in and ensure completion of all activities/programs in a safe, secure environment. She is a very good person with an enormous heart, drive, ambition and great character. She has the drive to succeed at anything she desires and will be a positive and wise influence on anyone she meets. As the 2023 YOY, Shianne will represent the organization in an excellent manner and make BGCDE proud!” says H. Fletcher Brown Club Director Micheal Crumble. As the 2023 Delaware Youth of the Year, Shianne will go on to compete for the title of Northeast Regional Youth of the Year in June and an additional $20,000 in college scholarship. Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C. in September 2023, to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of $50,000 and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the Oval Office. “This is my second year being a finalist, and it’s really taught me that when you fall it’s important to pick yourself back up again” says Shianne. “I’m so thankful for everyone that helped me get to this point.” About Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware Since 1931 Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware (bgclubs.org) has enabled young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
