Beaming confidence and care, this second-grader lights up every room she walks into at the Club! Meet eight-year old Zylah H., an energetic and ambitious member of the Shortlidge Boys & Girls Club. Zylah loves to spend time with her friends and learn new skills in the classroom. She shares her favorite subject in school is math because it comes so easily to her. Learning that doctors use math to care for their patients, Zylah now dreams of becoming a doctor herself and using her strengths to make a difference.
Zylah has been part of Boys & Girls Club of Delaware for 3 and a half years now where she’s made long-lasting relationships with her friends and teachers. She shouts out her closest friends, Camille, Gianni, and Maylia, for always respecting her and being so kind and trustworthy. Zylah loves to play games such as Sharks and Minnows and tag with her friends and run around outside during recess. She explained how Boys & Girls Club gives her the opportunity to play and relax with friends outside of her regular classmates, branching out to meet new people and grow her circle. She also loves her teachers, Ms. Santie, Mr. Rob, and Mr. Allen, who are all really nice and respectful to her, something she cares for deeply. When asked about one of her favorite memories of her time at the Club, she shares the story of meeting Ms. Santie. She mentioned how nice and welcoming she was made her feel included. She also points out how funny Mr. Allen is, especially when he joins the kids in the gym, an activity Zylah says is one of her favorites.
One word Zylah uses to describe Boys & Girls Club: exciting! She shares her enthusiasm towards the daily unknown of the Club, mentioning how you never know what activities you’ll get into that day. “There is always so much that is happening and you might not know what’s coming next, but that makes it really fun!” Zylah adds that this feeling reminds her of her experiences with Summer Fun Club. Shes enjoyed getting the chance to visit new places on field trips and stay active with her friends in so many different ways. She especially loves swimming in the pool during Swim4Life and loved her field trip to Fun City, a trampoline amusement park where she spent the afternoon jumping and laughing with her fellow Club members. At the Club, we’re committed to giving every child the chance to explore new adventures, learn through play, and enjoy exciting experiences that help them grow and develop into their best selves.
Zylah has loved her time so far with Boys & Girls Club of Delaware, as she shares a lesson she thinks every Club kid should know before entering the Club: how to listen. Through practicing with her teachers and her own self-development, Zylah’s well-respected attitude is rooted from lessons of patience and listening to others. We are grateful to have such wise and caring kids at our Club, and we hope more kids like Zylah will enter our doors soon!

The feature introducing Zylah on the Boys & Girls Clubs site is a warm spotlight on how young members grow through community support. It highlights her interests, achievements, and the encouragement she receives, showing the positive impact of these programs.
From my perspective, stories like this matter because they personalize the mission—reminding us that behind every initiative are real kids whose lives are being shaped.
It’s similar to Slope Game, where progress depends on focus and balance. Likewise, nurturing young people requires steady guidance and opportunities to help them thrive.
In short, Zylah’s story is a testament to how clubs empower youth to build confidence and pursue their passions.
Took a photo of my TV with my iPhone and got terrible rainbow lines. Uploaded it here and the moire was gone instantly. Works great on mobile too — no app install phone moire remover.
