Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware will join United Way of Delaware and other like minded community agencies to celebrate the love of reading and My Very Own Library (MVOL).

Founded in 2011, My Very Own Library encourages and supports students’ love of reading by providing them access to brand new, free books to build their own libraries.  Rooted in research indicating that students foster a life-long love of reading and demonstrate stronger literacy skills as they build home libraries.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware similarly offers Club members reading and learning opportunities to foster the love of reading and reduce the summer learning loss during the summer break.  Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is the Clubs answer to combat the “summer slide”.  Research shows when kids do not read over the summer months they can lose up to two grade levels of comprehension.  Clubs recognize books play an essential role in a child’s development and are the building blocks for their Great Future.

On May 23rd, United Way Delaware will takeover the ballpark to host My Very Own Library “Love of Reading Celebration’ at Frawley Stadium to cheer on the Wilmington Blue Rocks and young readers.  (Click here for ticket information)

United Way Delaware states, “this is guaranteed to be one of the most memorable moments of the program year.” Kids and families will have a ball, and might even catch a ball, while exploring different vendor exhibits and family resources that support and encourage reading for kids and with kids.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has been a key champion for United Way and will be an Exhibitor at the game to provide information, resources, giveaways, interactive engagement and SMILES to our special guests – all in the name of reading!
