Every Kid Deserves a Birthday Party

Written by Stu Sherman

At the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club, an important aspect of what we do is to pay attention to trends, issues, and the needs of our kids and community. Based on a hunch, Club staff took a survey of our 85 after-school program kids – and what we found was astonishing.   Only 20 of our 85 kids had ever had their own birthday party!  Therefore, the Club staff did what we do best – we sprang into action!

The Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club is excited to announce we will host monthly birthday parties at the Club for our kids and we are committed to providing special memories for everybody.  On January 24th the Club held its first Club-wide birthday bash and the kids will surely be talking about this party for a LONG time!

The birthday bash included a dance contest, Club staff lip-sync battle, birthday cake and food for everybody – donated by community supporter Panda Express! Thank you to all staff, volunteers and partners who made this party so special for the kids.

Boys & Girls Clubs have expertise in youth development that is unsurpassed, and leverage this experience to better serve kids during out-of-school time.  Our leadership is backed by a commitment to providing a high-quality Club Experience facilitated by caring, trained professionals who understand what it takes to be a voice for young people and draw out their best.  The Club Birthday Program is another example of our commitment to ensuring our kids have the greatest Club Experience possible.

Putting on parties of this magnitude takes a lot of planning, help and resources. If you are interested in helping with the Greater Newark birthday party program, please contact Stu Sherman. Thanks again to our friends at Panda Express!

The February party (sponsored by AmeriHealth Caritas) will be a carnival! You (and the kids) are going to love what we do next! Happy Birthday to our Club January kids!
