Congratulations to Mary Kate Benson, Director of Volunteer Services for Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. Mary Kate was recently appointed to the Delaware Governor’s Commission on Community and Volunteer Service. “The terms of service I did with Public Allies Delaware, an AmeriCorps program, really changed the course of my life. I believe strongly in the power of service and want to do whatever I can to promote it and advocate for it”, states Benson.
The Governor’s Commission on Community and Volunteer Service is committed to enriching lives and communities by advocating service and volunteerism. The duties of the Commission are prescribed by, but not limited to the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. The Commission is comprised of representatives reflecting the broad diversity of the state including members of the public sector, the private nonprofit sector and the business community. The Commission is supported by, and works in collaboration with the Office of the Governor, the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, Division of State Service Centers and the State Office of Volunteerism. The Corporation for National and Community Service provides partial support for National Service initiatives undertaken by the Commission.
Mary Kate applied for the Commission because she thought it would be a great opportunity to further the work she does with the Clubs. “Since we are a statewide organization it is going to be a great way to get connected to organizations, resources, and people throughout the state and further all of our volunteer programs” Benson went on to say.
Mary Kate, your Boys & Girls Club family is honored and proud of your prestigious appointment and the State of Delaware is fortunate to have you serving in this capacity.
