Delaware Credit Union’s Social Responsibility Committee Supplies Clubs with a Wealth of Much Needed Supply Inventory

Delaware Credit Unions’ Social Responsibility Committee members met by conference call several times throughout the summer as they researched changing the focus of their fund-raising efforts throughout the state. After much research, and a lot of spirited debate, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware was selected.

The credit unions came together quickly to accomplish a “Supply Closet” drive – collecting items used by the after-school program administered by the Boys & Girls Clubs. With 15 Club locations and 27 programs at schools throughout Delaware, the supply closets are always in need of restocking. Meredith Jeffries-Snedker, CEO of New Castle County Delaware Employees Federal Credit Union generously offered the use of her board room as a staging area for collecting the items.

On October 1, John Wellons, President & CEO, and Mary Kate Benson, Director, Volunteer Services, met members of the Committee at the credit union to pick up the items. They were amazed and grateful at the amount of supplies the credit unions were able to amass in less than a month! Benson will inventory the supplies and distribute throughout the state according to the needs of each Club. In addition to the supplies, Shelley Ennis, Louviers Federal Credit Union, presented Wellons and Benson with a check. Luckily, Wellons and Benson had brought two vehicles- they both were filled to the brim with games, coloring books, crayons and markers, paper goods, and much more!

The first ‘in-person’ meeting of the Delaware Social Responsibility will be scheduled within the next month, and Benson has agreed to attend and share the ‘calendar of events’ scheduled for 2019 with the Committee.

The Committee thanks Priority Plus, Wilmington Police & Firefighters, Dover, Eagle One, DEXSTA, Louviers, and New Castle County DE Employees Federal Credit Unions for their extra effort in making the inaugural drive a success.
