On October 3rd, longtime Corporate supporter and Club Champion, Capital One, was awarded a 2018 Wilmington Award. The 16th Annual Wilmington Awards was held in Council Chambers at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building in Wilmington.
The Wilmington Awards recognizes outstanding accomplishments of distinguished Wilmington citizens and/or citizens who serve Wilmington, excelling in the fields of the arts, athletics, business, education, environment, and health or science. It also recognizes individuals for their community service, heroism, contributions to the faith community, and dedication to the cause of human and civil rights.
Capital One has continuously been an outstanding community partner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. They have gone above and beyond to support our mission and staff in many different ways. In addition to generous financial support they’ve provided to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and other organizations in Wilmington, they also dedicate time and resources.
Often, Capital One’s Community Relations staff reaches out to see what support is needed in our Clubs. Whether the project at hand is spreading mulch, assisting at an event, cleaning a room, or doing an activity with Club members, Capital One associates are up for the challenge. They arrive with a positive attitude and are ready to work.
In the past they’ve hosted a Day-of-Coding, financial literacy workshops, and are continuously reaching out to find new ways to partner. Their financial support has also been important to the continued growth and success of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. They’ve been able to help fund a new full-time statewide STEAM Director, updated technology centers, and updated teen centers.
Additionally, several times a year Capital One hosts trainings, networking sessions and more for their non-profit partners. They understand that while the business side of a non-profit is incredibly important to being successful and being able to fulfill the mission, is it often difficult to spend time growing in that area. Every year they host a Pro-Bono “Speed Consulting Event” where non-profit executives can receive targeted consulting and expert advice. They recognize that they are the experts in that field and are generous in sharing that knowledge.
In the last year Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware staff has been invited to trainings with Capital One’s Marketing Team as well as being trained in Agile Work Flow. These trainings provided vital information that is practiced at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware.
Capital One is helping people of all ages, especially our youth, to build knowledge and skills for 21st century jobs. Capital One is having a strong community impact on workforce development and job readiness by dedicating dollars, time and resources.
The Boys & Girls Club is just one of Capital One’s many non-profit partners. They work with organizations who serve youth, the elderly, education, financial literacy and more. These organizations range in size, scope, and mission. But the common thread is that the support from Capital One is tailored to their needs and a vital part of their success.
