H. Fletcher Brown Club Mentor Brings the Navy to the Club

54% of Club alumni said the Club saved their life.

When volunteers give of their time, talent and treasure, they help Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe place to go after school and life-changing opportunities kids wouldn’t get anywhere else.  One such volunteer, Jennifer Denham, has been connecting with young people for several years at the H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club through the Club’s mentoring program.  Recently, some of the young people Jennifer mentors expressed an interest in the United States Navy.  Jennifer, always looking to make real life connections to her time with her mentees asked a friend (whose son serves in the Navy) to come a visit the kids.  What took place was even more than the kids (and Jennifer) could have imagined.

The mentees had prepared interview style questions for the Naval officer, to learn about his service and what it means to be in the Navy.  The young man mesmerized the kids with his stories and photos and brought United States Navy flags for the kids.  Bringing to life opportunities such as this transforms young lives.  There are many ways to give, but none has a greater impact on youth than building confidence, teaching life skills and helping plan for a great future.  Thank you Jennifer for YOUR service to our young people building bonds and creating experience to make a real difference in a child’s life.
