Boys & Girls Clubs – Statement on COVID-19 virus.
Clubs Closing March 23
Dear Boys & Girls Club Families and Community:
In keeping with our promise, we have been taking every reasonable precaution to maintain our high standards of safety for the children, teens, staff, and others who use or visit our facilities. As an additional precautionary step during current concerns about the coronavirus, we have decided to close Club facilities for two weeks, beginning Monday, March 23. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us via email at [email protected].
Safety is the number one priority of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and we are doing everything possible to keep children, our staff, and volunteers protected from the COVID-19 virus. At this time, we are NOT planning to close any of our locations, unless we get a directive from our National Headquarters, Health Department or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or any authorized government agency. We continue to monitor all updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State of Delaware’s health department for updated information. We are advising all staff, families, and youth members to take precautions as recommended by the CDC, and providing additional resources like handwashing guides, and information about how to talk to young people about the spread of COVID-19.
At this time, our locations will continue to follow established safety precautions and newly recommended preventative measures from the CDC, which include the following:
- Increase frequent hand washing, for more information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website
- Our staff will incorporate additional sanitation efforts
- Increase communications with kids about safe behaviors when coughing, sneezing and avoid touching their mouth, nose, or eyes without washing their hands.
- Increase communications with families/parents about best practices to stop or decrease the spread of many illnesses.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is the only place that some of the families in our community can turn to when schools are closed. We are monitoring this diligently and will continue to operate as long as we are able to provide a safe environment for young people. As always, we place the safety of our youth and staff at the highest level. If community members have additional questions, please contact your local Club for additional details. We will continue to update you as we know more.
While Many Doors Open, These Doors Transform
Our Clubs throughout Delaware are centers of community and places of opportunity for thousands of children and teens. Inside our blue doors kids can be themselves, but more importantly, youth of all ages and backgrounds learn to develop intellectually, socially, emotionally and morally to become productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
Please contact the Club nearest you for more information on the programs and services offered.
